Assistive Technology Training - Physical Injuries and Diseases

Our #1 Expertise

Alternative computer access for clients with repetitive stress injuries (RSI), autoimmune diseases, spinal cord injuries, and neuromuscular disorders has been Adaptive Technologies primary specialty since the company's founding. Specific disabilities include multiple sclerosis, ALS, spinal cord injuries, amputees, lupus, scleroderma, Sjogren's disease, chronic arthritis, carpel tunnel, tendonitis, and fibromyalgia. These disabilities might seem to be unrelated but from a computer accessibility standpoint, they often entail similar accommodations. All of the above disorders involve physical limitations or pain that make standard computer input difficult or impossible. Obviously, the severity of the disability varies with each disorder and determines which adaptations are appropriate.

Typical Adaptations and Training Areas

Worksite-Specific Adaptations

Many clients with severe repetitive stress injuries, autoimmune disorders, and neuromuscular disorders need additional office accommodations to function at work. Common adaptations include desk and workstation modifications, adjustable arms and mounts for equipment, telephone system modifications, and custom switch installation. Adaptive Technologies assesses the need for all of these modifications with every worksite evaluation. We also commonly integrate assistive technology training with database and internal system training relevant to the client's job.
